About the project

JCH workshop Brno 2023

JCH takes country houses as a starting point for opening up a much broader intellectual agenda. Our research sits at the interface between Jewish history, art history and heritage culture. Intellectually, the project is driven by a dynamic process of Knowledge Exchange with the heritage sector. Curators and heritage practitioners are core members of the project team and central to everything we do, including the production of pioneering scholarship.

We work with national institutions, public museums, individual practitioners, and community groups across Britain and Europe to transform visitor experience and public understanding of Jewish country houses, their collections and context, and Jewish history more broadly. The project meets a unique need by bringing Jewish and non-Jewish heritage sectors and spaces into conversation.
